Sandwiches
They may seem like the simplest meal you can buy, but your sandwich is actually a pretty complex thing. Just think about all the ingredients that go into the bread, and all the various commodities required to create a filling: meats, cheeses, vegetables (hopefully!) and spreads. Then think about where those ingredients come from. Are they responsibly sourced? Do they contain chemicals? Will they impact your carbon footprint? Not sounding so simple anymore is it?
Because your sandwich is so complex it has the power to do lots of things to your body and the environment around you, both good and bad. Choose the wrong sandwich and you’ll soon be ingesting all manner of pesticides, preservatives, additives and other chemicals that can contribute to quite serious diseases, including cancer. Not to mention the other issues like lethargy, weight gain, yeast infections, digestive problems, brain fog and much more.
Oh and did we mention top soil?
Topsoil is the outermost layer of soil and it contains important organic matter that’s used by plants for their essential nutrients. Unfortunately, through constant use of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides, conventional farming has led to the depletion of top soil and poorer plant life.
That’s why at The Truly Healthy Sandwich Co. we only use farms that employ responsible farming methods i.e those that won’t lead to further depletion of top soil. It’s just one of the ways that we help you to eat a more environmentally conscious sandwich. That and only using local suppliers, so you reduce your carbon footprint too.
Responsibly sourced produce
We mainly use produce from organic farmers and wholesalers, so you can rest assured that your sandwich won’t include harmful chemicals and preservatives that can lead to long-term health problems.
And we avoid the substances that usually go into commercially-made sanwiches, such as hydrogenated fats/oils, margarine, shortening, table sugar, table salt and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which all wreak havoc with your hormones and blood sugar levels .
Plus, our animal meats are free from GMO feeds and sourced from animals that only eat the food that they were designed to eat, like seed worms and grass etc, so you end up with a healthier animal that will produce higher quality protein and good fats.
We think about every last detail, from your core ingredients like bread, meat and vegetables, to oil, herbs & spices and even salt.
Breads
Our breads are sourced from an artisan bakery that supplies the likes of Waitrose and Harvey Nichols. All our breads are made with Premium unbleached flour, sourdough and organic flour. Some breads will be fermented for 48 hrs, some for 24 hrs, and all will be made with butter and free range eggs. No chemicals are added.
Meats
All meats are either sourced from a local organic butcher, who makes over 100 different types of organic sausage and also supplies game meats like bison, rabbit, game birds and buffalo, or from 2 other farmers that rear animals using non-commercial farming methods i.e. grass feed, no mass antibiotics, no GMO feeds or any other form of denaturing.
Vegetables
Our vegetables are sourced from an organic wholesaler and 2 local non-commercial farmers, who use the same principles as organic farming but without the soil association certificate.
Herbs & spices
Our herbs and spices are also sourced from local farmers, wholesalers and local shops. And we include organic sea salt, butter, mayonnaise and much more.
Cooking oils
Conventional cooking oils often go rancid when heated and attack our cells. That’s why we only use cold pressed oils on our salads and we only use the best oils when frying food.
Snack and treats
Snacks and treats are all hand made with the highest organic and non-commercial ingredients.
If that’s not enough, then just give us a call to find out more about how we source and prepare your food. Of course, if you’re interested in combining healthy food with an exercise plan, then we can help you with this too. It’s what we live for.
